The project:

Technical Assistance in Support to the Social Welfare Fund, Republic of Yemen’ (TA-SWF) is the successor of the ‘Social Welfare Fund Support Project’ (SWF-SP), which was implemented during the period from June 2002 until June 2006. Both projects are (were) financed by the European Commission (EC). The new project, TA-SWF, has been approved for a period of 18 months From November 2006 Mar 2008.

Project summary

The long-term project objective of the project is to contribute to improving living conditions in general and access to basic needs, such as food, housing and clothing, of households below the food-poverty line and of other vulnerable social categories below the poverty line.

Through strengthening the service delivery capacities of the Social Welfare Fund, the project will contribute to the implementation of a new policy and legal framework, which has been designed in the first phase. This latter aims at improving the access of the poorest and most vulnerable social categories of the population to the Fund. The second objective is to assist the beneficiaries of SWF in finding employment or becoming self-employed so as to cope without further SWF financial assistance.
